A Lasting Democracy, Essay

Two Lanterns

“The future is coming! The future is coming!”

Ywo Lanterns for Liberty

Last night—250 years ago—two lanterns were lit in the steeple of Boston’s Old North Church. That signal sparked a revolution that gave birth to our nation and its enduring ideals of democracy and equality.

The shots fired on April 19th echoed around the world. Today, let’s hope the world hears us again—without the need for gunfire.

Let these two lanterns, now lit once more, symbolize a new uprising—one that calls on America to cast off the tyranny of this administration and its oligarchic enablers. From the ashes, we must rebuild a democracy made to last through the 21st century and beyond.

Two lanterns are now burning… the people are crying out in the streets…

“The future is coming! The future is coming!”

And it can be a beautiful future.

But how can we ensure equal treatment for all under a single set of rules?

It’s not enough to stop this administration from further dismantling the democracy we’ve spent 265 years building. We must also be ready with a clear, actionable plan to restore what’s been lost. The Phoenix must rise—stronger, wiser, and committed to justice for all humanity.

I was born and raised in Boston, just as storm clouds gathered ahead of the Second World War. As a boy, I marched in Boston’s Patriots’ Day parade more than once. Now, eight decades later, similar clouds seem to block out the sun—another sign that action is needed. And action is happening—across the country, people are rising to stop this would-be despot and his oligarch handlers in their tracks.

But halting the destruction is only the beginning. The real challenge lies in what comes next. We must be prepared with a well-built, forward-looking strategy—ready to go the moment the tide turns.

I’m not a lawyer, nor do I have legal training. My background is in technology and entrepreneurship. But I believe I can still contribute. I will offer ideas and help rally the people with the experience, knowledge, and integrity to design a robust framework—one that learns from our successes, our failures, and our hard-earned lessons—to secure A Lasting Democracy for generations to come.

I call it Project 2029 – A Mandate for a Lasting Democracy!

Please join me in building this Mandate. And watch our star-spangled banner continue to fly in the bright sunshine of tomorrow – without the rockets’ red glare!
